SCB Families: The state Department of Health and the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department recently recommended changes to COVID-19 guidelines, including reducing the number of isolation and quarantine days. Please see below the changes that we will adopt. As a reminder, St. Charles follows all protocols as part of the Learn to Return program. Changes in isolation Protocols Students who test positive for COVID-19 must isolate themselves at home for at least five full days, regardless of their vaccination status. They can return when the following criteria are met:
5 full days since symptom onset, or the positive test sample was collected; and
No symptoms are present, or symptoms are improving; and
No fever without the use of fever-reducing medications within 24 hours of returning.
Changes in Quarantine Protocols Students who are close contacts with a positive patient may or may not have to quarantine. Close contacts don’t have to quarantine if:
They are fully vaccinated and are asymptomatic. They are required to get tested on day 3 of exposure and again on day 5 after exposure in our school testing lab and wear a well fitting mask.
OR they have a confirmed positive case of COVID-19 in the last 90 days and do not have symptoms. Mask wearing protocols remain.
Close contacts must complete the full, 10-day quarantine if they have not received the vaccine yet. These students can return with a lab approved PCR negative test, taken no sooner than 5 days post exposure. If your student has recently been in isolation or quarantine, these new rules may allow a return to school sooner than anticipated. Please call our office to confirm the return to school date. Thank you for your attention to these changes and as always, please feel free to ask if you need any clarification. Blessings, Beth O’Reilly
