Faith-filled Disciples of Christ
Dear St. Charles Parents, Students, Faculty and Staff,
It is a true honor and blessing to be part of the St. Charles Borromeo Catholic School and Parish community as your vice principal! I am excited to be part of such a faith-filled and academically accomplished community. I have been a part of Catholic education from my very first days, as a student and a teacher. I attended Holy Family Catholic School in Auburn, WA, then Kennedy Catholic High School; I earned a B.A. in Elementary Education and WA State Teaching Certificate from St. Martin’s University in Lacey, WA; a M.S. in Reading & Literacy from Walden University, and a M.Ed. in Educational Administration from Seattle University.
Prior to serving the St. Charles community, I was the Assistant Principal at Visitation Catholic STEM Academy in Tacoma, WA, and taught 3rd and 4th grade language arts and social studies. Also, I taught and was part of the administrative team at St. Philomena Catholic School in Des Moines, WA, for 14 years. While I was at St. Philomena, I taught 2nd grade for 11 years and 5th grade for 3 years. I have also been a private tutor for the last 15 years for kindergarten - high school students in math, language arts, history, and science.
My prayer and goal for everyone this year is to continue the academically excellent education program that has been already established, but to ensure that it emanates from Gospel values and the faith of the Catholic Church.
Blessings,
Kathleen Mercer
