I am thrilled to be joining St. Charles this fall. I have always been passionate about working with students. I received my Bachelor’s Degree with a double major in Business Economics with an Accounting Emphasis and Psychology from the University of California at Santa Barbara. After a brief career in finance, I left the corporate world to pursue a career working to help support the social and emotional lives of students. I received a dual Master’s in Science in School Counseling and Marriage and Family Therapy from California State University, East Bay, as well as a School Counseling Credential. I started my school counseling career in the San Francisco Bay Area, working in both public and private elementary and middle schools. I moved to Tacoma to be closer to family, and since then served as the Upper School for Girls (and eventually boys) counselor at Annie Wright Schools. After leaving Annie Wright, I supported students as a counselor at Marcus Whitman Middle School in Port Orchard, and most recently, Narrows View Intermediate School in University Place.
On a personal note, I am deeply invested in Catholic Schools. I am a parishioner at St. Patrick Church, and my daughter and three step sons attend Catholic Schools. We know what a community of faith can bring to our own children, and I am honored to be joining this community this fall. We just welcomed our 5th child Matthew, who was born this April. In my free time, you can find me riding bikes with my children, pushing a stroller miles around Tacoma, or planning my next great culinary experiment. I love to travel and learn cuisines from various different countries I have visited. So far, Thai food is my favorite!
I can’t wait to get to know you and your children, and support their preschool through 8th grade journey through social emotional support and wellness. Please reach out to me to say hello, or to share information that might be beneficial in support of your family or student.
In Gratitude,
Nancy Nelson Incoming St. Charles Borromeo School Counselor
