Faith-filled Disciples of Christ
This hands-on program gives kids grades 4-8 an opportunity to design, build, program, and operate a real robot and compete against other schools in the FIRST LEGO LEAGUE (FLL) program. In addition, teams will research a real-world problem within this year's theme, then develop and present an actual solution! Examples of previous themes and projects include Animal Allies where our team created a Catch-a-Cat app to help trap & release stray cats and Into to Orbit where our team created a choose-your-own-adventure database to help astronauts combat boredom.
Teams meet at the school from 3:00 bell time until 5:00 PM twice a week after school in the Library and occasionally on the weekend through December until the competition day. Teams will also participate in special events such as fundraising or field trips for their research project.
The once-weekly non-competing Spring Robotics program runs from January through June to allow the kids to continue to learn robot coding and construction as well as to introduce the program to 3rd graders who are interested in joining the team for next season.
TO GET YOUR CHILD SIGNED UP, please contact Jen Merringer at jmerringer@gmail.com. Fee is $100 per session (fall FLL team and winter/spring club). Financial assistance may be available. Fee is waived for children of parents who volunteer as coaches (no expertise required!)
The St Charles Borromeo Robotics Program applies STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) learning in an exciting competitive team sport atmosphere.
